The Seventy-Five Day Interval

Removal of the Abomination of Desolation

Dan 12:11-12 "From the time that the daily sacrifice is abolished and the abomination that causes desolation is set up, there will be 1,290 days. 12 Blessed is the one who waits for and reaches the end of the 1,335 days. NIV

  • Previously 1260 is used to describe the time until the middle of the tribulation, and the time to the end of the tribulation and the demise of the Anti Christ . Based on the use of 360 days as a prophetic year
  • The author adds 30 extra days here (1290) for the end of the abomination that causes desolation
  • The author adds 45 extra days (or 75 to the 1260 to make 1225) for additional events

Antichrist is Resurrected and/or only Cast into Lake of Fire with False Prophet

Isa 14:11-20 All your pomp has been brought down to the grave, along with the noise of your harps; maggots are spread out beneath you and worms cover you. 12 How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! 13 You said in your heart, "I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. 14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High." 15 But you are brought down to the grave, to the depths of the pit. 16 Those who see you stare at you, they ponder your fate: "Is this the man who shook the earth and made kingdoms tremble, 17 the man who made the world a desert, who overthrew its cities and would not let his captives go home?" 18 All the kings of the nations lie in state, each in his own tomb. 19 But you are cast out of your tomb like a rejected branch; you are covered with the slain, with those pierced by the sword, those who descend to the stones of the pit. Like a corpse trampled underfoot, 20 you will not join them in burial, for you have destroyed your land and killed your people. The offspring of the wicked will never be mentioned again. NIV

Rev 19:20 But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed the miraculous signs on his behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped his image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur. NIV

  • The two passages seem to contradict each other. In the first passage, it is clear that the Antichrist is killed, yet in the second, he is captured. There are three possibilities
    • One, Fruchtenbaum argues that the beast is killed and then resurrected as the first of the "second resurrection" (those who do not have eternal life), and then cast into the lake of fire
    • Two, it could be that the casting into the lake of fire is the "death" of the Antichrist, later described in Isaiah
    • Third, the Isaiah passage describes Satan, whereas Revelation 19:20 describes the Antichrist, not the person Satan

Casting of Satan into his fifth abode, the Abyss

Rev 20:1-3 And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the Abyss and holding in his hand a great chain. 2 He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. 3 He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time. NIV

  • There are six abodes of Satan mentioned in the bible
    • First, the throne of God
    • Second, the mineral garden of Eden
    • Third, the atmospheric heavens
    • Fourth, the earth (in the middle of the tribulation, Satan is cast to earth)
    • Fifth, the abyss
    • Sixth, the lake of fire

Judgment of Living Gentiles

Matt 25:31-33 "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. NIV

  • Two groups are created. What are the requirements for entry into each group?

Matt 25:34-46 "Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'

37 "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'

40 "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

41 "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.'

44 "They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?'

45 "He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.'

46 "Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life." NIV

  • Fruchtenbaum argues that the groups are separated into pro- and anti-Semitic groups. And verse 40 does seem to support that view, but verse 46 would then raise the question of salvation by works. Fruchtenbaum argues that only believers would have risked their lives to protect the Jews. In which case, the dividing line really is salvation and Semitic views, or at least it is both

Resurrection of OT Saints

Dan 12:1-2 "At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people — everyone whose name is found written in the book — will be delivered. 2 Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt. NIV

  • There are two resurrections mentioned here and they probably are separated in time because of one event still to come, the marriage feast of the lamb
  • The OT saints are resurrected for the marriage feast
  • The OT unbelievers are resurrected but not until the end of the millennial (during the "second resurrection") for judgment

Resurrection of Tribulation Saints

Rev 20:4-6 I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony for Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his image and had not received his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy are those who have part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years. NIV

  • Now, the martyrs during the tribulation are resurrected to participate in the marriage feast. At this point only believers will be alive
    • Five resurrections
    • First, Christ, the firstfruit
    • Second, the NT dead in Christ (and then living believers raptured) (before the tribulation)
    • Third, the two witnesses (during the tribulation)
    • Fourth, the OT saints (after the tribulation)
    • Fifth, the tribulation saints (after the tribulation)

Marriage Feast of the Lamb

Rev 19:4 9 Then the angel said to me, "Write: 'Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!'" And he added, "These are the true words of God." NIV

Matt 22:1-14 Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying: 2 "The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son. 3 He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come, but they refused to come. // 4 "Then he sent some more servants and said, 'Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner: My oxen and fattened cattle have been butchered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.' // 5 "But they paid no attention and went off — one to his field, another to his business. 6 The rest seized his servants, mistreated them and killed them. 7 The king was enraged. He sent his army and destroyed those murderers and burned their city. // 8 "Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited did not deserve to come. 9 Go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.' 10 So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, both good and bad, and the wedding hall was filled with guests. // 11 "But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. 12 'Friend,' he asked, 'how did you get in here without wedding clothes?' The man was speechless. // 13 "Then the king told the attendants, 'Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' // 14 "For many are invited, but few are chosen." NIV

Isa 25:6-8 On this mountain the Lord Almighty will prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples, a banquet of aged wine — the best of meats and the finest of wines. 7 On this mountain he will destroy the shroud that enfolds all peoples, the sheet that covers all nations; 8 he will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove the disgrace of his people from all the earth. The Lord has spoken. NIV

  • Technically, the marriage feast is a double marriage
    • The church as the bride of the Messiah
    • Israel as the remarried wife of Jehovah

APPLICATION:

  • Gratefulness. We do not deserve our salvation
  • Purpose. We are nearing the end of the days, and many do not believe in the God of the bible. If they do not see a difference in us, they may never get another chance to hear / see the gospel. Your life might be the last light anyone sees. Is it different enough (ie, holy) that people will see Jesus? Or does it look like everyone else around you?
